Mumbai International Airport

Formerly known as Sahar International Airport, Chattrapati international airport is the primary airport that serves the state of Maharashtra. The airport is one of the busiest in the South Asian Sub continent.

The airport is spread over an area of 1450 square kilometres and is responsible for handling more than half of the passenger traffic from the South East Asian countries along with Delhi's Indira Gandhi Airport. The airport has recently undergone modernization that is done by private sector.

The entire airport is Wi-Fi enabled which the passengers can use for free.

Reaching airport:

The nearest railway station close to the domestic terminal airport is Ville Parle station. You can take a local to it and then you can take an auto that will take at most 30 minutes to reach the airport.

For reaching to the international terminal the nearest station is Andheri and from there you can take an auto that will take you there within an hour.

Other Facts and Statistics:

The newly constructed and revamped airport has the best facilities and serves almost every major airline in the world. There are separate buildings for handling international and domestic traffic. A new parallel runway is being planned so that congestion can be eased.

The airport is the second busiest in the country after Delhi's IGIA. The Delhi Mumbai route is the busiest and more than 50 per cent of the domestic flights operate on this route. The airport has been recipient of many international awards that highlight the level of excellence in their class and services.

The airport currently has five terminals which handle international, domestic and cargo. The airport is home to many major Indian flyers like Jet, Air India and Kingfisher. Many low cost budget airlines like Deccan, IndiGo, SpiceJet and JetLite also have their reserved parking and other hangar space here.

Terminal 1 is mainly used to handle the domestic traffic and been divided into two sub terminals as 1A and 1B. These terminals earlier used to serve the international flights and cargo, but today there are separate terminals to handle them.

Terminal 2 is dedicated to handle the international traffic. Domestic segments of international airlines are also operated from this terminal.This terminal is currently undergoing renovations and new constructions are being carried to accommodate large traffic.

Cargo Terminal is a dedicated terminal that is concerned with the handling and transportation of the freight and cargo to and from all over the world.
